The FSC 2000 (or BOT 3000 as called in USA) is as standard supplied with 3 different sliders. The Red slider is fitted with a leather sole. Leather absorbs water and by doing so becomes slip-resistant. It is therefore not suitable for wet measurements (even shoes with leather soles have a heel made of rubber or synthetic material, so that will be the determining material).The Black slider is a standard rubber shoe sole material and can be used for both dry and wet measurements. Rubber generally gives higher readings than synthetic shoe soles. All the sliders meassure the coefficient of friction.The blue slider is a synthetic shoe sole material and can be used for both wet and dry measurements.As previously explained, dry measurements are irrelevant, as they do not say anything about the risk of slipping (No inferences regarding the safety of a surface while in a wet or lubricated state can be drawn from traction measurements made while the surface is dry.) William English.All measurements carried out by SLIPSTOPĀ are taken using the Blue slider in wet condition. When monitoring the floors, the Blue slider should continue to be used. Button no. 2 on the machine is pre-programmed to run a distance of 60cm and measure Dynamic co-efficient of friction. To carry out wet measurements, either wet the sponge first and then insert it under the machine, or insert the sponge and use the supplied syringe to inject water through the hole at the front of the machine. Then push the machine gently forward until you are certain that the slider will hit the water trail. Press button no. 2. At the end of the run, make a note of the average value displayed on the screen, or print a short or long report by pushing the corresponding buttons. By monitoring the floors on a regular basis, it will immediately be noticed if incorrect cleaning causes a drop in slip-resistance.In the unlikely event that a slip accident should occur, there is no standard saying that the Blue slider should be used to check the condition of the floor at the time of the accident. Friction tests should be taken at the spot where the accident occurred as soon as practically possible, using the black slider, running tests in several different directions. As previously mentioned, button no. 2 is set to measure Dynamic co-efficient of friction. Button no. 3 is programmed to measure Static coefficient of friction, which is the measuring method preferred in the US. Measurements after accidents should therefore be taken using both button 2 and 3. Always print the long version of the results.Static coefficient of friction is normally always higher than Dynamic coefficient of friction (the reason why cars are fitted with ABS brakes).
